Praise God

We have had a rainy January and February.  All this rain reminded me of this poster I made a couple of years ago.  As a teacher, I don’t always appreciate the rain.  It makes life a lot more difficult in the classroom. Even if it only rained at night and on the weekends the playground would still be soaked.

With this in mind I try to see the positive side of the rain.  I think this verse goes a long way in helping me.  Life isn’t all sunshine and joy.  There are the clouds and sorrows but God is there.  He shows love for us in each amazing drop of rain.  Some of the most amazing pictures I have were taken right after (or even during) a rainstorm.  So even in the midsts of our troubles and sorrows we can experience the love of God and remember to praise Him.

Choices

Life is full of choices like this.  It is too bad that we so often  complain about the thorns instead rejoice over the roses.

This last weekend I listened to a presentation about being positive.  They recommended that we choose positive friends to be around.  That made me wonder if I would be chosen as a positive friend by others.

I pray that we will all have a very positive week.

We All Belong

I took this picture at Monterey Bay Aquarium.  They had a beautiful display of jellies.  They have now been replaced with seahorses.  Just as great, but much more difficult to photograph.  There is less light and the seahorses move more.  So I keep trying and I may get lucky!

This poster I created for myself as a reminder that we are all valuable the way we are.  It is so easy to see what others are doing and wish we could do what they do instead of focusing on the opportunities that God has placed before us.  I see this so often with my students, they want to “help me teach” others instead of doing what they need to do. I have no problem recognizing the downfalls of this and trying to correct them. Yet when it comes to me, I am all too ready to criticize myself for not having the abilities of those around me instead of using the talents that God has given me.

So next time I want to go down that path, I should remember the jellies and focus on the things that God has given me today.

Morning Prayer

This morning as I was walking to school, I enjoyed a beautiful sunrise.  This picture is from a couple of years ago, but this morning’s was just about as beautiful.

When you stop and think about it, there is no logical reason why a sunrise or sunset needs to be so beautiful.  God gave us all these beautiful colors to enjoy.

By the way, does anyone know why some sunrises and sunsets are in the yellow and orange hues and others are in the pinks, blues and purples.  I thought it might be the impurities in the air, but I’ve seen the two only a day apart.

But either color, they are both beautiful and are a reminder to give God the praise He so richly deserves.

Friends

The rain has been pouring down all week.  I am finding that the day seems awful long with 14 students stuck inside!

So glad I have all you as my friends.  So here is a bouquet to cheer up your dreary winter day and to say thanks for your friendship

Feeling Lucky?

This poster is one with a little humor for your week.  But it does have a message for me.  It is so easy to place our faith in things and people around us.  Then when things get crazy, we feel like we’ve been let down and our world turned upside down.

When we put ourselves in God’s hands we change our focus and life can make a lot more sense, even if things are crazy around us.  It won’t always change our situations, emotions or feelings, but it does help give us an inner peace that God is in charge of our lives.

Hope you have a great week!!

Gold

I took this picture a few years ago when I was in Bergen, Norway.  It wasn’t until much later that I noticed what was behind this live golden statue,  McDonalds, which is also called the “golden arches.”   I  remember  how frustrated I was in trying to get an appropriate backdrop.  I finally gave up and just tried to frame him with the architectural lines.

It reminds me a bit about life.  We think we have things all figured out and know just what should happen.  Things seem to go awry and only later we can see the bigger picture from God’s point of view. Then we see that God’s plan was so much better than ours.

The hard part is trying to remember that truth when things don’t go the way we want.

Peace

This week my poster is about peace.  I think that is something we all want.  World peace would be nice, lack of conflict in our own lives would be even nicer.

The peace that I want the most is when you are in the middle of any kind of problem, you know that God is there with you.  There is no problem or heartache to big for God.  We may feel broken, bleeding or just dead to the problems around us.  We may not feel God’s presence or His peace.  But God has promised to give us His peace.

I pray that each of claim that promise today for your lives.

Reputation

I am having so much fun putting this blog together!  I want to publicly thank my son, Leo, for all his hard work.  I dream up my crazy ideas and requests and he “magically” makes them happen.

This is another poster I  made several years ago.  It seems to have “hit the spot” for people.  I have seen it used in blogs from the US, Germany and Indonesia.

I think a good reputation is one of our most valuable possessions.

Have a fun weekend!!
